Phenotypic screen of suspected isolates for Carbapenemase production. Identification of unknown bacterial isolate. Identification may include biochemical and spectrometry methods. Antimicrobial Drug Susceptibility testing of suspected isolate. Drug susceptibility determined by broth microdilution testing.

Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type:	Carbapenem resistant or Carbapenemase producing bacterial isolate
Collection Instructions:	Actively growing organism in pure culture in a sealed agar plate or slant. Specimen source required. Indicate suspected pathogen.
Temperature and Stability:	Room Temperature; stable for 72 hours.
Unacceptable Conditions:	Mixed cultures or non-viable organisms.
Expected Results:
Organism identification. Carbapenemase: Detected, Not Detected, Inconclusive.
Shipping:
Wrap specimen container in absorbent material and place each specimen inside an individually sealed biohazard bag. Transport specimen overnight at room temperature. Ship to the Coralville location.
