Specimen Requirements | |||||
Specimen Type: | Fungal isolate specimen. Sample sources: Biopsy, Blood, Bronchial brushings, Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BAL)/washings, Pleural fluid, Scrapings/clippings, Sputum, Tissue, Urine, Wound, Other. | ||||
Collection Instructions: | Actively growing culture on suitable medium in sealed agar plate or slant. | ||||
Shipping: | |||||
Specimens should be stored and shipped under the same conditions. Wrap specimen container in absorbent material and place inside a biohazard bag. Transport specimen overnight at room temperature. Ship to the Coralville location. | |||||
Temperature and Stability: | Room Temperature (15-30°C); stable for 72 hours. | ||||
Rejection Criteria: |
Specimens will be rejected if received under these conditions: Mixed cultures or non-viable organisms. Isolates from environmental sources. An additional processing fee will be billed for all mixed cultures. Refrigerated and frozen temperatures specimens. |
