Fungal isolate identification. Methods may include biochemical, DNA probe, or sequencing.

Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Fungal isolate specimen. Sample sources: Biopsy, Blood, Bronchial brushings, Bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BAL)/washings, Pleural fluid, Scrapings/clippings, Sputum, Tissue, Urine, Wound, Other.
Collection Instructions: Actively growing culture on suitable medium in sealed agar plate or slant.
Shipping:
Specimens should be stored and shipped under the same conditions. Wrap specimen container in absorbent material and place inside a biohazard bag. Transport specimen overnight at room temperature. Ship to the Coralville location.
Temperature and Stability: Room Temperature (15-30°C); stable for 72 hours.
Rejection Criteria: Specimens will be rejected if received under these conditions:

Mixed cultures or non-viable organisms. Isolates from environmental sources. An additional processing fee will be billed for all mixed cultures. Refrigerated and frozen temperatures specimens.
Expected Results:
No fungus isolated, name of fungal organism identified.
Comments
A processing fee will be billed for all organisms submitted that are not in pure culture, as indicated under Unacceptable Conditions.
