Specimen Requirements
Specimen Type: Minimum 1 mL Serum
Collection Instructions: Red Top Tube: centrifuge and transfer serum to a secondary tube
    Serum Separator Tube: collect 4 - 6 mL and centrifuge
      Shipping:
      Wrap specimen container in absorbent material and place inside a biohazard bag. Transport specimen with cold pack. Ship to the Coralville location.
      Temperature and Stability: Refrigerated (2-8°C); stable for 2 weeks.
      Rejection Criteria: Specimens will be rejected if received under these conditions:

      Plasma, CSF. Contaminated, heat-inactivated, hemolyzed, or severely lipemic specimens.
      Expected Results:
      Lyme Total Antibody: Negative, Equivocal, Positive. First Tier Lyme Testing Interpretation: Negative for antibodies to B. burgdorferi (Lyme disease), Equivocal for antibodies to B. burgdorferi (Lyme disease), Positive for antibodies to B. burgdorferi (Lyme disease).
      Comments
      Specimens screened and found to be antibody positive or equivocal are reflexed to Lyme IgG and IgM Antibodies Second Tier Tests by Chemiluminescent Immunoassay (CLIA) - DiaSorin.
