May 31, 2018 -- SHL recently published an interactive version of its Annual Report, “From Complexity to Clarity – Bringing Public Health Laboratory Science into Focus.” It is now available in the Publications section of the SHL website. The report features a comprehensive overview of laboratory activities and achievements, a financial report and testing volumes by area of specialty and by county. In his introductory letter, SHL Director Emeritus Christopher Atchison stresses the importance of accountability and openness as the Hygienic Laboratory supports public health in Iowa by creating “a broadly based understanding by policymakers and the people of Iowa of what is necessary to reach this promising future.” The Annual Report summarizes the work of SHL in meeting the 11 core functions of a state public health laboratory, including disease prevention, environmental protection, emergency response, policy, research training and education, and partnerships and communication. Hard copies of the Annual Report are available by emailing Kathy Fait or by phoning 319-335-4322. |
