Equipment pinpoints environmental contaminants When soybean rust was found in Dallas County during 2007, fungicides were applied throughout the state to combat the effects of the rust. Concerns about the level of these fungicides prompted the Iowa Department of Natural Resources to ask the State Hygienic Laboratory to develop a method that would monitor the amount of approved fungicides applied to streams and rivers.

Project AWARE to tackle Lower Des Moines River A river expedition and an environment stewardship adventure come together in the 14th annual Project AWARE (A Watershed Awareness River Expedition) from July 11 – 15. This year, AWARE will tackle a 53-mile section of the Lower Des Moines River from Eldon in Wapello County to Turkey Run Access in Lee County.
