Industrial Hygiene

The State Hygienic Laboratory is accredited to perform industrial hygiene testing to support clients in the evaluation, monitoring and control of workplace conditions. The laboratory specializes in organic solvents, oil mist, total and respirable particulates, inorganic contaminants such as metals and silica, and other hazards using National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) methods.

The SHL has expertise with method-specific instrumentation required for analysis of industrial hygiene samples including:

  • Gas Chromatography-Electron Capture (GC-ECD)
  • Gas Chromatography-Flame Ionization (GC-FID)
  • Ultraviolet-Visible Spectrophotometry (UV-VIS)
  • High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
  • X-ray Diffraction (XRD)
  • Inductively Coupled Plasma-Mass Spectrometry (ICP-MS)
  • Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-AES)
  • Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR)
  • Phase Contrast Microscopy (PCM)
  • Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM)
  • Ion Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (IC-MS)
