The State Hygienic Laboratory's Maternal Screening and Newborn Screening programs help give babies the best possible start in life. The Iowa Maternal Prenatal Screening Program – based in Coralville – and the Iowa Neonatal Metabolic Screening Program – based in Ankeny – are part of the State of Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (Iowa HHS) Center for Congenital and Inherited Disorders (CCID). The State Hygienic Laboratory is the designated testing facility for both programs.
In addition to Iowa HHS, the Laboratory partners with the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, which provides physician consultation, counseling and follow-up services.
