The State Hygienic Laboratory is seeking an experienced chemist to fill the Environmental Lab Specialist, or Environmental Lab Scientist position for the Chemical Threat, Environmental Testing, and Food Testing Programs. This position will perform analysis samples for chemical threat agents and contaminants in a wide variety of matrices. This position will be responsible for sample preparation, sample analysis, data processing and reporting of results from a variety of forms, including clinical, environmental, and food matrices. This position will be responsible for operating and maintaining instruments, including LC-MS/MS, HPLC, GC-MS and associated equipment to ensure prompt analytical response and minimal turnaround times back to external partners and customers. Additional duties include method development and outreach/training to first responder organizations.
Location: Coralville, IA
Schedule: Normal working hours are 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday. However, this position must be willing to be available to respond to emergency response analyses at potentially unconventional business hours or on the weekend in emergency situations.

The State Hygienic Laboratory (Iowa’s Environmental and Public Health Laboratory), at the University of Iowa, under contract with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, has two exciting full-time opportunities for newborn screening laboratory analysts in the Ankeny, IA facility. The primary function of the position is to perform biochemical and genetic testing of blood specimens collected from newborns for detection of inherited disorders.
In accordance with CLIA regulations, an official or copy of an official, transcript will be required prior to an offer of employment. (Applicants with degrees from foreign institutions must have the transcripts evaluated by a member of the National Association of Credential Evaluation Services http://www.naces.org/ and the applicant is responsible for all costs associated with that evaluation).
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8am - 5pm with rotating weekends and Holidays

Clinical Lab Analyst - Diagnostic and Clinical Division

The State Hygienic Laboratory (Iowa’s Environmental and Public Health Laboratory), at the University of Iowa, under contract with the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services, has an exciting full-time opportunity for a Clinical Laboratory Analyst.
Conducts laboratory testing on clinical specimens for the purpose of disease diagnosis and treatment or surveillance. Ensures results are accurate and timely and that work is conducted under best laboratory practice and in compliance with CLIA regulations or other regulatory agency requirements as appropriate. Adheres to all laboratory safety and security policies.
The primary responsibility of the position is to perform moderate to complex testing on samples received daily in Diagnostic Microbiology, Serology, and Maternal screening, using conventional serology and chemistry methods.
